Sure there is a theoretical safety adventure in fitting mud tyres. But are we assume that modern tyre technology can’t cope with the difference between autumn and mud in the outback without having us taking off a perfectly good set of tyres because they’re unsuitable when it gets a bit wet
If we’re driving up the Alps in springtime and pass through hot temperature to low temperatures, as is frequently the case do we stop and swap all the tyres over as we reach the summit? Surely tyre manufactures can make a tyre that works competently and safely in hot and cold weather.
The Europe government hasn’t taken that bait and has no plans to introduce legislation to make winter tyres a requirement in the Europe. Nevertheless the tyre industry is lobbying the European Commission to introduce the legislation instead.
