GO BEYOND

The Land Rover elastic that had been comfortably extended to include the Range Rover Classic and Discovery 1was now being stretched towards its limits as enthusiasts and independents garages grappled with the new spectrum of technology, further challenged by the wholesale adoption of electronic control.

Well for me the elastic has snapped. I’m finding it increasingly hard to connect the road going ocean liner that is Range Rover the two tone hot hatch sport and the indeterminable blandness of Discovery 3 with traditional bean axle Land Rovers.
That’s probably just as well. For one thing they’re far better, but it’s their character that has moved so far away from the old stuff. The remaining link is off road ability though there are now plenty of manufacturers making adequately competent off roaders, one of which has seriously usurped Land Rovers hold on the true outback and commercial markets.
