DISCOVERY 3 SUSPENSION

How to re bushing the Discovery 3, upper wishbone arm is no easy task. But it’s certainly easier dealing with Poly bushes than standard Land Rover items. First we are working on the right hand side of the vehicle. The diagram above shows the layout of the front suspension, although the set up at the rear is very similar. Under trays are removed, and steering track rod end detached from knuckle using ball joint splitter. Start with upper arm. Under the upper arm, detach this suspension height sensor, unbolt brake hose clip cables, and undo anti roll bar link’s nut. Use jack under lower wishbone to support knuckle and hub, thus preventing the axle shaft from pulling out of the transmission.

remove the tow nuts, bolt and washers holding the wishbones two arm to the chassis access is pretty tight, you’ll need to employ a did of wiggling to pull the arm bushes out of the chassis brackets and remove the upper arm. Note that this Discovery arm has the poly bushes fitted. Next the old poly bush metal insert is driven out using a dolly, and the Poly bush itself can then be twisted and pulled out by hand. Bushes can be extracted by hydraulic press using tailored dies and formers to prevent wishbone distortion poliytherain section are tapped in place by mallet, then the metal bush is squeezed firmly by a vice. Use a protective plate behind the bush’s flange. The new bushes are a neat squeeze into the chassis brackets when refitting the upper arm. Reverse the sequence to reassemble.
