The off road a series I in skilled hands will still give a modern Defender or a Discovery 3 serious run for its money. Forget traction control, Hill Descent Control and adjustable air suspension series II and IIIs scrabbled their way over the world’s worst terrain, rescuing, delivering and fighting. And none of those pre electronics drivers had any complaints they just loved those character ridden, dependable machines.
The scene started changing in 2001 with the launch of the current shape Range Rover with the exception of the Freelander , which we tolerated was underpinned by series I design principles. It was the new Range Rover that stretched the technology and customer base. Our own workshop section also had to stretch its technical knowledge the Range Rover was much BMW wholly different from a traditional Land Rover, and new models were on the way that would be different again.
