SERIES ALTERNATOR

If you’ll be using the vehicle regularly do fit that alternator. Just keep the parts you take off so they can be reinstated if necessary. As for headlights, pair of new sealed beam units are actually pretty good, and they don’t cost much.

The fitting of front seatbelts was mandatory from January 1965 rear belts was made mandatory from 1987 April it’s not compulsory to retrofit belts to earlier vehicles, but if belts have been fitted they will be tested at time and must comply. And if your vehicle was first registered before January 1973 it can wear black plates.
On the subject of engine decommissioning first check the oil is clean and up to level. Check the coolant, and check the plugs and points are clean and gapped correctly. Dispose properly of any fuel in the tank and put in new fuel.
