That was then, this is now and we’re looking at a couple of One Tens that go right back to those time. The HWK 431V is one of the later, hand built prototypes near to what was eventually produced but still with two fuel fillers and lots of other prototype evidence. HWK was sent for evaluation by the army photos and a report survives. just think of the value of future order s, hanging on the approval on this very vehicle FDU470T is even older, and seems to be one of the first true One Ten prototype built it’s on a modified Range Rover chassis and suspension, and it’s clear to see where the Series III bodywork has been adapted.
first thing to notice are the big differences in chassis design, and that the later HWK has its steering damper mounted up front FDU has the remains of an earlier version front steering damper mounting that seems to have been partly torn off.
Being earlier, FDU still has the then current Range Rover running gear, with one shocker mounted in front of the rear axle and one behind production version of the 110 had both shockers in front of the rear axle. Next we notice how the bulkhead which looks much the same is actually different, particularly around the foot wells. And FDU’s modified series III bulkhead is held in place with non standard brackets. Then there’s the new big windscreen HWK’s version is made from four pieces two shaped ends plus a top and a bottom trail.
we're definitely in its twilight years but, by now, the 110 has absolutely nothing left to prove. quite simply it's become a legend its own lifetime.
