COOLANT

Water alone in your radiator isn’t enough to keep the system working at its best in the long run. it is absolutely essential that your 4WD’S cooling system is filled with the correct coolant or anti freeze. The bright coloured fluid in your radiator works to prevent corrosion eating away at expensive components in the cooling system. Coolant is made up of various chemicals, the most common being propylene or ethylene glycol. These chemicals are mixed with a specific ratio of clean distilled or demineralised water. Coolants come in two forms, as a complete fill pre mixed or as a concentrate to be mixed with water before use.
The colour of coolant comes from a dye that is added by different manufactures to distinguish between the types of coolant. Different brands and style of coolant should never be mixed. Even if the colour of the coolant is the same, mixing coolant can lead to all sorts of engine and radiator damage and can even result in overheating issues. When topping up your cooling system, always use the same coolant that has been used in the system previously. Avoid topping up with water as this will only dilute the coolant water as this will only dilute the coolant water ratio.
