DISMANTLING CLEANING 12J ENGINE

Take off just the parts that are necessary Depending on your engine type, basic part to remove include rocker or cam cover, air filter casing and hoses.
The fan may needed to come off to reach the front of engine, and the alternator is best removed because it’s tricky to paint. The inlet and exhaust manifolds may need to be detached depending on access can you reach to pint the cylinder block blows them.

There’s no need to repaint area that are hiding the extent of painting and access depends on how far you wish to take the job and how much time is available. A few days before doing the job, access which parts you want to remove, then buy the gaskets that may be needed, such as those on the rocker cover, manifold and thermostat housing. Think of other parts too if the alternator is to be taking off it may be worth fitting a new drive belt.
Take off rubber hose wherever practical drain the cooling system first so they can be renewed or rejuvenated, and crud can be removed from the pipes they connect to.
