TD5 DEFENDER SOME CHECKING UNDERSIDE

Coolant tank must be clean. Oil and the coolant indicates cylinder head problems expensive. Not possible t   o look in? Dip some absorbent paper or shine a bright light behind it.

Engine injector loom injector wiring goes inside the rocker cover. Oil tracks back through the harness. Remove ignition keys, unplug here and check for oil. Small number of cases of injectors leaking internally diesel gets down into the sump, dilutes engine oil, wears engine. Check for high oil level, feel the oil. Turbo a Td5 can

perform reasonably, even with a worn turbo. They don’t last forever, though, and are relatively expensive. Check for exhaust smoke.

exhaust can indicate condition black smoke is over fuelling (failing turbo may cause this) blue is wear. White is water in the bores or may be unburnt oil from failing turbo bearings. Put your fingers in the exhaust smoke feel and smell what’s coming out.
ECU and wiring take out driver’s seat, locate the ECU, remove red black plug, check for oil if oily, budget for replacement, plus new injector wiring harness.
