PAINTING BLOCK COVERS

Engine block colours vary Series III engines started off light blue unit the five bearing version appeared in terracotta. Later engines are black.
You may find original colours by trawling website. Alternatively, obtain a few colour charts and find one that matches. For example Crown Bridal Blue replicates the original early S III blue engine colour. These household type paints aren’t available in heart proof version but that doesn’t usually matter on the engine block, or head. The tricks is to completely de rust and de grease the surfaces, then apply a thin primer and a thin top coat that will allow the heat to pass though, without shriveling and staining.
Accessory stores sell heat resistant engine paint in a few colours but shaded such as bright red don’t always look right in a Land Rover satin black usually looks the business.
Engine bay panels should be treated in the same way as any other body work after cleaning down a good colour restore and wax polish usually does the trick. If they need painting, spend time on preparation aiming for a smooth bass before applying the top court. Primer \filler and Re paint primer will fill surface defect that can otherwise spoil a gloss finish.
