SETTING BOOST PRESSURE

When refitting, clean all gasket faces and check they are smooth and flat. Fit new gasket and seals throughout during assembly and renew flexible oil drain hoses and clip. Before starting the engine, temporarily release the oil inlet pipe and fill the turbo centre housing with engine oil, then refit the pipe. This will prevent the turbo spinning initially in dry bearings to ensure it gets off to a safe flying start.
Boost pressure will need to be reset after fitting a replacement turbo or other changes to the system. On mechanically actuated turbo a pressure gauge can be connected into the turbo air outlet and led into the cab so that boost pressure can be read while driving with the engine under load. Then any adjustment made to the actuator, and the test repeated to confirm.
Electrically controlled engines are set using diagnostic equipment. Either way, it’s a job that’ll need to be carried out by a dealer.
