KING OF TORQUE

Even the impressive supercharged petrol V8 Range Rover’s 420lb ft is well short of the TDV8’s 472lb ft and it makes you realized how puny the outgoing TDV6 was at 288 lb ft. TDV8’s maximum power is 50 per cent better than the TDV6’s at 272bhp.
Finbar McFall, Range Rover’s Brand Manager the man who’s overseen the company wanted levels of performance you’d expect from a petrol engine. But with the economy of the outgoing TDV6 and they’ve achieved it at 25.1 mpg.
The TDV6 Range Rover gets the same gearbox, suspension and Brembo brakes as the supercharged petrol model. Cris McCoy, one of the company’s top test engineers, was putting the vehicle through its final series of braking, traction control and stability tests on a massive frozen lake in Lapland. We weren’t allowed to get behind the steering wheel of the Range Rover than but were fortunate to accompany Chris during day activities.
