OFF ROADING

Highly abrasive muddy water will try to get in everywhere, so spear a thought for seals, bearing and air filters. Spend half a day on preventing these hazards. Obviously, the vehicle needs to be in good condition fully serviced, no serious chassis rot and no temporary bodges such as exhaust patches or pipes or cables tied up with wire. Keep fluids at maximum levels to allow for leakage.
Running problem such as misfiring, hesitancy, sticking throttle, cutting out, or starting problems, will all be magnified off road, so sort them out. You may not intend wading but you might need to if deep ruts and depressions are flooded. The sudden cooling effect when hot sump, transmission or axle hit cold water can cause water to be sucked in via worn oil seals. If yours leak, replace them now.
