THE POWER THE ICONIC DEFENDER

Fuel consumption figures aren’t available at the time of writing, but this thoroughly modern engine is very efficient, complying with the latest EU4 emissions regulations. Of course, Land rover are used all around the world and, in some corners of used to in the UK but the engine tune is claimed to be developed to cope.
Bore and stroke are 89.9mm and 94.6mm respectively block is cast iron, while the cylinder head is alloy. Like all other current Land Rovers, it features highly efficient common rail fuel injection. The new Garret variable geometry turbocharger is claimed to help deliver better throttle response than the TD5;s.
Two overhead camshafts operate 16 valves in the cylinder head, and the shaft is chain driven. As always when Land Rover has used an engine from elsewhere in the Ford group, its engineers have worked extensively on it to ensure reliable lubrication at the extreme angles a Defender engine is likely to encounter. And sealing is improved over the Transit’s to cope with extremely wet or dusty conditions.
