SWIVEL OIL

Older Land rover use EP90 in the swivel housing, but a single application of one short grease was specified for later models. Not knowing what had been used in the Discovery’s swivels, we chose to drain whatever it contained and fill with fresh grease.
It transpired that grease had been used previously and so draining took ages. If you are going to drain the swivel s, take the Land Rover for a spin first to warm up the oil, grease and speed up the job. One short grease comes in a handy, squeezable bottle for easy application.
Clean around the drain and filler plug with a wire brush. You may need to dig years of accumulated mud from the drain plug. Have a container ready and remove the filler followed by the drain I plug. Allow all the oil to run out and check for debris. Refit drain plug and fill the axle casings with EP90 gear oil. We used a pump, which is available from Land Rover advertisers.
