To fit the kit, first you‘ll need to trim around 5mm from your curly striking up edge with a small knife. This will help make the repair kit easier to fit as you‘ll not be struggling to conceal the wayward flap of misshapen trim. Take one of the repair moldings and offer it up to the dashboard fallowing the obvious curved line on top of the dash while concealing the loose edge under the new trim.
Another pair of hands comes useful at this point. As you’ll need to press down on the trim while screwing the fixing into the dash. There are no hole to line up, and no holes to be drilled, so all you need to is pop the screws through the countersunk hole in the new trim and screw the supplied trox headed self tappers straight down into the dashboard.
Getting your hands in to screw the fasteners into the top of the dashboard is quite a tricky job. As you will find getting any kind of regular screwdriver starting on top of the screws usually means that it now fouls on the wind screen glass. The situation doesn’t get any easier when you move round to the section immediately in front of the dash binnacle either. Your best is to buy, beg, steal or borrow the correct sized torx bit on the end of a drive ratchet to give you sufficient clearance to work in across the bottom of the screen. With both section of the trim screwed down you may want to fine tune the overall look by turning the fastening screws in or out to get rid of bows in the new trim.
Ones the installation is complete the finished item is only noticeable, because you happen to know it is there, while the trim’s exact colour math will have anyone else convinced that it was an original feature of the dashboard. One think to bear in mind though, if you are the owner of a mid 90’s discovery whose dash same seem okay at the moment, is that by fair the easiest time to fit the repair kit is when you have the windscreen out. Should you ever have you a screen replaced it may be worth fitting a repair panel just as a matter of course to save you hassle a couple of years down the line.
