Jump a generation and we’ve got the Discovery3, which is quit leap from the original vehicle. The Discovery 1 rear end is a love it or heat it event. But the spilt tailgate is arguably more user friendly
Cross linked air suspension cushions the bumps on all but the base model and makes the Discovery 1 seem roly poly in comparison. The towing ability is also better, not just because of the more torque engine and better suspension 14 extra inches of wheelbase adds stability.
The Discovery 3 has the option of seven seats. As with the Disco2, the rearmost pair is forward facing but they disappear into the floor rather than fold up to the side, giving a vast boot in five seat mode. Cargo space is lacking with a seats in use though.
Off road you really notice the improvements. Like all the modern Land Rover the Discovery 3 relies on electronic technology to keep it going. This is the vehicle on which terrain response made its debut turning every driver into an off road expert at the twist of a dial it’s hard to find terrain that will stop these vehicle especially those one were electronic center and rear diffs are fitted, looking up in an instant and direct power and torque where you need it, exactly when you need it.
it may not have the style of a Range Rover but a range topping Discovery 3 runs the prestige model very close in specification.
