WHEEL CLEANING

Use the selection of scrapers to remove rust and flaking paint from the surface, holes edges and joints of center disc outer rim. Especial attention is needed when removing rust from these seams where rim is welded to the wheel center. Triangular scraper is a great tool for cleaning rim edge against Tyre it’ll shift old sealant and will give a smarted edge to the wheel. Fingers mould the emery around the wheel’s shapes to apply equal pressure. Remove any rust down to bare metal, feather the edges. Fold the emery on the wheel edge using two hands to clean rim lip against Tyre. Clean the rim’s edge, center hole and stud holes. Use the emery lightly on the good areas that aren’t rusted just enough to remove the old gloss and to provide a key for the new paint.

Scrape any old paint off the valve rubber, or fit the new valve. Cover valve with masking tape before painting. Bounce the wheel around to shake any excess dust off, then brush it out of the light spaces and wipe the wheel down with thinners or turps. Wipe clean then apply undercoat. Paint the front edge of the rim, but not the inner edge against tyre. Now for the gloss. Combination of paint and careful brushing achieves a shiny finish. It’s a tough job that lasts easily touched up after off roading.
