MAIN COMPONENTS

The O seal around the casing can perish. The compressor blades are rough with oil carbon deposits and have eroded by grit getting in. the centre housing, with compressor and turbine on shift is lifted off after first removing bolts from exhaust turbine housing.

Oil supply connections are on top and bottom of the centre housing. They’re also used for oil priming if the turbo is to be refitted. Compressor wheel is unbolted and the shaft is withdrawn with turbine still attached. Note that chunk of carbon dropping out.

Exhaust turbine wheel looks in good shape, though blades show evidence oil carried through by the exhaust from worn engine. Main component, with shaft bearings still inside casing. The unit was almost completely seized due to carbon build up its scrap.
