THE SETTING BOOST PRESSURE

Boost pressure will need to be reset after fitting a replacement turbo or other changes to the system. On mechanically actuated turbos, a pressure gauge can be connected into the   turbo air outlet and led into the cab so that boost pressure can be read while driving with the engine under load. Then any adjustment made to the
actuator, and the test repeated to confirm.

Electronically controlled engines are set using diagnostic equipment. Either way, it’s job that’ll need to be carried out by a dealer. Most Land Rovers are fitted with Garrett turbocharger of various types. Exception includes an Allied Signal on 300Tdi, Mitsubishi on P38 and KKK on TDV6.
Twin turbochargers are finding their way into production vehicles. The TDV6 uses twin turbos, one for each bank of cylinders, in its original Jaguar installation; though a single turbo is used on the Discovery version. Land Rover’s new TDV6 unit uses twin variable geometry turbos, one feeding each bank of cylinders via its own intercooler.
