FITTING THE BRACING STRUTS

A cross member and two bracing struts under the boot floor also need replacing. We’ve welded in the bracing struts, shown here and fitting the replacement cross member will be next issue’s first job before the new floor goes in.
We saved ourselves a lot of time by cutting out the Discovery’s support cross member complete with this lump of rotten boot. Bracing struts are welded to the sides as shown. We’ll show the DIY alternative to spot welding them to the floor.
Ideally we should have removed the fuel tank before reaching this stage, but it will definitely have to come out before we weld in the new floor and then weld the cross member and bracing struts to it. So that’s the first job we’ll be tackling in the next instalment.
