THE LAND ROVER SERIES CANVAS

New canvas do look very new against a well used Land Rover, but they mellow surprisingly well after a year in the open. Something else to consider is that the old stitching may be weak, which won’t show up until you’ve had the vehicle out on a really wet, windy day.
Good secondhand canvases are almost as difficult to find as good secondhand Series is. Many camping shop products are nowadays biased high performance synthetic textiles, not the best choice for your old canvas.
These are products specially made for the job. You wouldn’t advice cleaning with washing up liquid, as it contains salt, which is not good for the canvas material. As for streaking, it’s never good to do wet cleaning on a really bright sunny day, so maybe that was the problem. Some people like to clean canvases with a pressure washer that does get rid of much of the dirt but it can also drive dirt into the fabrics, so it’s better to clean gently.
