The Montego was the main high volume use for the Prime engine, though it’s also found in some Maestro vans. The later engines have two stage injectors, so these engines run more quietly. However, you won’t notice any difference in power between the single stage and the two stage injectors and, because a Land Rover is fairly noisy anyway, you may not notice that a two stage engine is quieter in good condition.
One thing to consider if you’re changing the injectors is that the single stage injectors are cheaper. the two stage injectors were introduced towards the end of the production run, and the last Montego’s were sold in 1995.
How to know whether the engine has single stage or two stage injectors? Check where the high pressure metal pipe from the pump attaches to the injector. If it attaches at the side, horizontally, the injectors are single stage if it attaches at the top vertically, the injectors are two stage.
