The workshop manuals are surprisingly quiet on this point. But yes, it is possible to replace the seal without removing the transfer box. Drain the transfer box oil. Remove the rear driveshaft, the brake drum, drive flange blue in our diagram, brake parts and the brake brakplate, etc. you’ll now be looking at a small aluminium casting, which is bolted on the rear face of the transfer box. This is the speedometer pinion housing yellow in our drawing, with the seal red in the centre of it.
The seal is just a tight push fit in the housing, and it can be prised out with a blunt screwdriver. On the inner surface of the housing where the seal sits, or there may be a slights, oil weep where the metal is damaged. If you do this, or the metal is already damaged, replace the seal with a little non setting sealant such as Hylomer.
