SPRINGS AND DAMPERS

Front springs and dampers are trickier to remove than their counterparts at the back. The main problem is access to the lower damper bolts you can’t get socket in there. And even when you do get a spanner on, you’ve only got around 60 degrees to swing it in, requiring constant resetting of the spanner.
As well all Land Rover maintenance, a range of tool size are required. The nuts on the existing dampers were 18mm, but the new owns were 17mm. To give yourself sufficient room to fit the springs, lift the Land Rover and support the chassis on axle stands. Then remove the wheel and support the axle lightly on a jack. This should give you enough room to fit the new springs when you get to it.
