The test drivers were three farmers, two of worm normally drove 88 inch Land Rovers and one a Peugeot 504 pickup. The result was a few reservations. From the farmers point of view it’s the vehicle. It’s got to be. And it’s a lovely vehicle to driven even if the Japanese refinements aren’t there.
It has to be said the ninety was a basic hard top not a county spec machine. One of the other testers wasn’t too convinced by the choice made with at least the partial assistance of union jack tinted glasses. Traditional Land Rover owners took time to get used to the much smaller movements needed to negotiate between first third and fifth gear, often selecting fifth when they really wanted third. Reading through the press reviews its striking how little reference was made to the private buyer.
