The engine is designed to operate at unusual angles so just keep to the service schedule and it will be fine. If frequently wading, or driving in mud or dust, we advise servicing the vehicle every 6000miles with new oil and air filter, oil filter and changing the cam belt 20,000 miles sooner.
Engines will be handling high loads at low speeds, and this will test the cooling system. Check that the viscose cooling fan is working by switching off the hot engine and turning the fan. It should be stiff. If it spins freely it’s not being driven, so fit a new one.
Check coolant and heart hoses, renewing any that are bulging, constricted, cracked, or chafing on other components. Replace dodgy hose clips you may need to releases these in the field.
Consider renewing a radiator that’s covered more than 100,000 miles. It might work fine on the road with air blowing through, but not at 5mph in a sheltered forest if it’s choked with sediment or the matrix has shed cooling fins through corrosion.
