SERIES III LIGHTWEIGHT

Not a lot of people know that No of 335 the Lightweight is heavier than a standard, civvy spec series IIIA guise. That’s got that one out of the way.
The distinctive, slab sided Land Rover was first pressed into military service in 1969 in series IIA guise, these are now few and far between, and their relative rarity means that good ones attract a modest premium.
The later series III version is the one you’re most likely to find in the classified ads. These, too are dearer than year average SIII thanks to their status in demand.
All Series Land Rover have a hair shirt approach to creature comforts, but the lightweight takes this to extremes they’d have left off the seats if they could have got away with it. Previous owners may have fitted such goodies as better seats and smoother riding parabolic springs.
