THIS IS FUN WITH LAND ROVER’S

This is fun flicking up and down the gearbox using the Command Shift manual position, balancing the Range Rover through the endless turns and making full use of its broad spread of torque. You never forget that this is a big, wide, luxury vehicle but progress on the twisty back road is brisk a lot brisker than would have been possible in earlier Range Rovers, other than the Supercharged, thanks to the unrated suspension.
And it’s smooth. Land Rover has even introduced a Positive torque system that blips the throttle during downshift for smooth control. We reach another off road section, which Land Rover originally included for its spectacular views across a green valley, but today it’s grey with low cloud. Yesterday the track’s clay surface was bone dry and offering limitless grip, now it’s incredibly slippery and manage to get stuck.
Anyway, Land Rover has done a grade job with the TDV8. Its engineers have produced a relatively quiet modern diesel engine, and they’ve kept most unwanted noise out of the passenger compartment. It’s class act and, with its myriad of suspension and interior improvements, a certain best seller.
