Land Rover has done V8 diesel before. In 1982 until was develop in conjunction with parking engines, cord named iceberg ( a name that would have been a classic public relations blunder in the current environmental climate) it developed a fraction of the power and torque of the new Range Rover implant, but plenty more noise, vibration and CO2.
Problem with cranking cylinder blocks, not to mention cash, meant the project was shelved, though none iceberg escaped inside a Range Rover. It’s currently hold up at the motor industry heritage trust’ safe house.
But that is the past. The current V8 diesel wallops the huge Range Rover up to 60mph in just 8.6 seconds, can get 25.5mpg, and CO2 output is lowly 294g/km. well lowly compared to our P38 petrol V8 slurping fuel at 18mpg with the tail wind, and taking 11.4 seconds to reach 62mph. now that progress.
