THE COMPETITION WINCH

Having the pulling power you need is one thing having a little in reserve is a much better option. And of course, there is the time element. Challenge competitors want to be able to get the vehicles to their punches quickly so not having to spool out too much rope reduces time spent setting up the pull. For example, Warn’s MI2000 has a line capacity, on the top layer of rope, of 9250lb nearly as much as the first layer on a 9500lb winch.

If you are going to use the winch for self recovery, the no load line speed measured in feet per minute is an important factor. As you drive forward and your wheels grip, you want the winch to wind the rope into the drum quickly to reduce the time spends putting the rope back on the drum after winching.
Some winch bumper  are only designed for winches up to 9500lb, so you might need to invest in a new bumper. Other accessories also need to be stronger.
