HEAVY WEIGHT WINCHES

A winch with a pull of 12,000lb is something of a beast. And when you consider that many Land Rovers, even when fully kitted out, weight just half of that you might wonder why you need one at all. The rule of thumb is that you go for a winch that is one and a half times the gross weight of your vehicle. Most Land Rovers come in around the 3000kg gross weight. Meaning the 9500lb (4309KG) which is just about up to the task.
But some of the newer models, like the Discovery 3 are closer to 3500kg 7700lb. ideally, its winch needs to be rated at 5250kg, or higher, and the next nearest winch is 12,000lb 5443kg. So, bigger Land Rover require bigger winches, as does the type of retain being driven.
More capable Land rovers enable drivers to take them further more easily, but they’re inevitably getting stuck in ever worsening terrain. Of course, its fun to get stuck in the first place, but having the ability to get your vehicle out is vitally important, especially if you are miles from home.
