Being the most versatile of low vehicles, Land Rovers are asked to shift a wide variety of trailers, and there are similarly large number of rear tow hooks and bars available. But rear tow bars aren’t the only option for moving trailers. Series and Defenders owners have fitted tow balls to the front bumper to help with pushing trailers into confined spaces and long awkward passenger.
On road, fixed hitches will be fantastic for towing, but they can act like a plough if you take the Land Rover along rutted tracks. Removing the tow bar before off roading is the best bet and there are many quick release tow hooks on the market. A better departure angle means less getting stuck, but leave you vulnerable, with nowhere to attach a rope tow.
Recovery points generally sit out of harm’s way and, in the event of you getting your Land Rover stuck, will be worth their weight in gold. They are usually a closed loop design, so ropes won’t suddenly fly off if the vehicle hits a bump.
In fact they are the only essential modification before you go off road the rest are down to personal choice. And if you think about it, it makes sense.
