THE FREELANDER DIFF MOUNTS

If you hear bangs and thumps coming from the rear of your Freelander, the prime suspect is broken differential mountings. Three rubber mounting keep the diff secured to its sub frame and, when they fail, the car not only becomes noisy, but vibration can be transmitted into the body. It doesn’t end there either adjacent part, including axles, driveline and suspension, can also take a beating.
Luckily effecting a cure is well within the scope of the home mechanic the mountings are easy to renew, though there’s very little room to work near the diff. the standard procedure is to remove the differential completely but there’s no need for that.
The quick and simple way but do please, stick rigidly to the method shown to avoid hassle. Just the front mounting that has failed but to remove it, the rear mounts have to be released so it’s as easy to renew all three.
