OIL FILTERS AND OTHER FLUIDS

Home servicing makes sense but you’ll need to dispose of the waste properly or face getting hauled in front of your local magistrate for a large fine. Most tip have a designated tank that you can pour your used engine oil into.
Drain as much of your old oil filter into the can containing the waste engine oil. Keep the oil filter separate from other rubbish and ask at the tip for advice on disposal. Brake fluid and antifreeze are classed as hazardous household waste. Once drained into a sealable container many tips will take these fluids make someone aware of what you have when you arrive. The fluid are then kept apart from other waste for separated disposal.
Diesel and petrol are two fluids that are harder to get rid of responsibly. Some local authorities suggest you try and palm it off on neighbours with petrol mowers or on military and motoring organization.
