THE OFF ROAD KIT

Some people think under side protection is a substitutes for driver skill they’ll clamp bits of metal all over the place and drive at full tilt into all manner of obstacles expecting them to yield to the ironmongery attached to the vehicle. But it should be carefully chosen and applied to the type of terrain you’ll be driving.
Take differential guards, for example. If you usually drive over rocks, you’ll be best off getting ones with integral sliders. Ones that solely protect the face of the diff may not quit as sexy as their sliding cousins, but have the advantage of not reducing your ground clearance better if you normally drive in deep mud.
It may be that skilled off roader won’t be driving fast enough to damage their diff casings, but there’s always that one occasion, such as an unseen rock in the middle of a lake or a post buried in the mud, to catch you out. Heavy duty front and rear bumpers are a matter of taste, but on non Defender Series vehicles, they give the ability to use high lift jacks and can also make a great place to store winchers.
