The nuclear chaps at developed Zircotec, a zirconia based ceramic thermal coating originally in the nuclear program. It’s now available to make your Land Rover’s exhaust system prettier, quieter, and longer lasting. The coating is well established in motor racing, including five Formula 1 teams, mainly to protect critical components from exhaust and turbocharger heat.
It’s also claimed to improve power by retaining heat flow through the exhaust, though I doubt you’d perceive any difference on a standard Land Rover. It can be applied to almost anything gearbox and cam covers, heat shields, even valve and piston crowns. But the most practical application for us is likely to be exhausted manifold reducing under bonnet temperature and downstream exhaust section providing a rust proof finish that prevents radiant heat from damaging other components. In addition to protecting against external corrosion, it’s also likely to reduce the likelihood of internal decay.
