SERIES I IS UNCERTAIN OS ITS OWN IDENTITY

It has been used for trialing and standard specification’ are phrases which just don’t sit well together. Parts from other Land Rover were routinely fitted to trials. So when you say you intend to return it to standard specification, I would suggest that’s probably not a good idea.
If you want a fairly standard Series I, buy one it’ll be cheaper and less painful than trying to pull this one back. It’s likely that the missing horn push is just the tip of the iceberg. Sorry to be bucket of cold water, but that’s the reality.
To be or not to be, 801 inch, that is? Well take a look at the rear edge of the doors. If the rear edge of the doors is vertical, it’s the later version of Series I, an 86 inch is 88inch. Or, just use a tape measure between wheel centers. Of course, it’s possible that someone might have cut and shout a longer vehicle down to 80 inch wheelbase it did happen.
