TECHNICALE TALK

Land Rover has done V8 diesel before. In 1982 a unit was developed with Perking Engines, codenamed iceberg (a name that would have been a classic public relation blunder in the current environmental climate). It developed a fraction of the power and torque of the new Range Rover implant, but plenty more noise, vibration and CO2.
Problems with cranking cylinder blocks and cash meant the project was shelved, though one iceberg escaped inside a Range Rover, which is holed up at the motor industry Heritage trust’s safe house at Gaydon.
The current V8 diesel wallops the huge Range Rover up to 60mph in just 8.6 seconds, achieves 25.5 mpg and CO2 output is a lowly 294g\km. well it’s lowly compared to our P38 petrol V8 slurping fuel at 18mpg (with a tail wind) and taking a yawing 11.4 second to reach 62mph. now that progress.
